About the Georgetown Chapter

Women, Peace and Security at Georgetown, also known as WPS@GT was founded in the Spring of 2021 by a group of six  Georgetown Graduate Students. It serves as the main student organization representing Georgetown in the wider DC Student Consortium on Women, Peace and Security.  By working in collaboration with members of the DC Student Consortium for Women Peace and Security we aim to foster a deeper understanding of the importance of gender issues across multiple disciplines and advocate for the institutionalization of  a feminist approach when solving critical peace and security issues.

 Key Chapter goals:

  • Provide a platform for GU students to explore the WPS agenda through exposure to guest speakers and events that will deepen their understanding of the agenda, publish their relevant academic writing/research, and gain valuable connections to organizations conducting work relevant to the WPS agenda to bolster their professional opportunities

  • Encourage GU graduate students to adopt an intergenerational, innovative and critical approach to issues in the the WPS agenda within the civil society space as it advocates for new research and policy

  • Foster meaningful connections between GU graduate students, members of the DC Consortium and experienced practitioners and professionals in the field of the WPS agenda

  • Increase awareness of the WPS agenda within GU and across a wider DC academic  audience and publicly promote an appreciation for a gendered approach to security and a feminist approach to foreign policy

  • Work closely with the Georgetown Institute for Women Peace and Security (GIWPS) to advance the initiatives of the DC Consortium as well as connect students to the GIWPS activities and initiatives.
